Wimps

Wimps.

That's the word that comes to mind this week. This evening I spent some time catching up on Facebook. A large portion of the posts this week are from students complaining that classes were in session in AISD. Apparently a temperature of -1 is too cold to go to school.

I think to myself - hmm, I went to school in Eastern Iowa. I know I went to school when the temperature was -1. In fact, I think I took my darling husband out for a tour of the Mississippi River in subzero weather. Yes, I think there is even a picture of us on one of those subzero days.

The inquisitive side of me wonders if there is any proof of said cold temperatures. The beauty of Google says, why yes, why yes there is. Weatherbase shares a snapshot of Clinton that indicates an average number of days per year that are below zero. Yes, it happens many times each year. And yes, we do go to school when it is that cold.

Yikes, I'm beginning to think I sound like one of those "old people".

When I was in school, we walked up hill, both directions, in the snow, everyday...

Nah, it wasn't like that at all. But there were some days that I walked. And some days that I walked in the snow.

Except for those days when it really was too cold. On those days it was so cold that the engine blocks on the buses are frozen solid.

Then it would be just crazy to go to school.

Yes. you did go to school when it was below zero, but they would cancel or shorten recess on those days. Thought about you when it was so cold the other night and was glad I didn't have to leave the house at say 11pm to pick you up from AP Bio lab, drama, pep band or debate!
Sorry you guys are suffering, but at least you missed our blizzard this week..... we do wuss out for a few hours when it's 40-60 mph winds and 14-19" of snow....drifts half way up the garage doors....but we are back in business in less than 24 hours.

Is it me or are the winds worse that the snow this year? At least that seems to be why the Des Moines area is cancelling.

I stayed home one day... because the plows in the town over hadn't been through yet and it wasn't safe to take my son to daycare.

Hope you are enjoying your wonderful weather this week. We're hitting 60 tomorrow!!!
